European Chief Commissioner of Transport approves 'Geest container'
"45ft pallet wide containers with flattened corners have been approved for multimodal transport within the European Union.'' The following has been stated by European Chief Commissioner of Transport Siim Kallas to Peter van Dalen.
"With this statement entrepreneurs finally have a clear answer regarding 'Geest containers' , the Dutch Euro parliament member replies.
Regular 45ft containers are not allowed in multimodal road transport. However the most common used variant with flattened corners, called 'Geest corner castings' does match the European legislation.
According to Peter van Dalen anyhow some obscurity arised regarding the endorsement for this type of containers. Therefore the Dutch Euro parliament member asked the European Chief Commissioner Kallas to clear things up. The reply of Kallas is very clear: 'There is noban for using this special type of 45ft containers in the European transport system. In addition the commission is not aware of any constraints for using this special type of 45ft containers.
